Govt offers relief to guesthouses
The ministry of tourism has launched a scheme of offering subsidy on interest for loans availed of by licenced guesthouse owners for upgradation of their premises in the wake of the Commonwealth Games. The ministry has also a heaved a sigh of relief following increase in the number of “definite” rooms in the last couple of months.
A licenced guesthouse owner can avail the interest subsidy on a maximum loan of Rs 2 lakhs per room. Also for the entire guesthouse, the upper limit for providing subsidy on interest would be Rs 60 lakhs. The owners may go for a bigger loan but the subsidy would be calculated only till the upper limit. Under the scheme, sanctioning of loan and release of first instalment should be completed by July 31, while the upgradation by September 20.
The scheme allows the guesthouse owners to upgrade rooms, including furniture, bathroom fittings and ACs, besides touching up of common areas.
