Govt plans to empanel architects
The Delhi government is planning to draft the new Municipal Corporation of Delhi Act in six months through which it intends to end the inspector raj in sanction of building plans. The new law, which will replace the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957, will enforce time-bound completion of development work.
Though the Union home ministry had delegated limited powers to the city government over the MCD, the Delhi Cabinet had decided to draft a new MCD Act in its bid to take total control over the civic body. The MCD is currently administered by the Union home ministry under the DMC Act, 1957. The city government is planning to hand over the work of sanctioning building plans to professional architects. A senior official said that the new MCD Act will have norms for professional architects to sanction building plans.
“Architects will be empanelled and those found indulging in wrongdoing will be fined and their professional license will be cancelled for which the city government will take the architects’ parent body on board,” added the official.
