Govt sets up panel on housing for poor
Following loss of lives in an east Delhi building collapse, the Delhi Cabinet on Monday constituted a high-powered committee to frame a broad policy for providing shelter to the poor. The Cabinet also decided that 9,000 low-cost houses would be allotted to the poor on a priority basis soon.
The Cabinet reportedly deliberated at length the incident of building collapse, which had claimed 70 lives. The Cabinet also decided to frame a comprehensive housing policy for the homeless and slum clusters soon. The committee to frame the policy includes Delhi urban development minister A.K. Walia, PWD minister Raj Kumar Chauhan and social welfare minister Mangat Ram Singhal. This committee is likely to go through a policy prepared by the chief secretary Rakesh Mehta, stated the chief minister Sheila Dikshit.
The Committee will be framing guidelines for distribution of about 8,000 low-cost houses.
