Govt shifts 11 officials, sets aside panel advice

With allegations of corruption flying thick and fast and instruction from the CAG, the CVC and the Shunglu Committee not to transfer any officials while the probe in the Commonwealth Games-related projects is going on, the Delhi government today transferred 11 officials.

Some of the officials who have been transferred have been identified as DJB chief executive officer, Ramesh Negi, DTC managing director R.K. Verma, PWD principle secretary K.K. Sharma, sales tax commissioner Jalaj Shrivastava and DSSIIT managing director Chetan Sangli. Meanwhile, six other officials of the Delhi government have also been confirmed transferred.
Earlier in the week, at a meeting with top officials of various departments of the Delhi government, chief secretary Rakesh Mehta directed them to keep their documents ready and “fully cooperate” with investigators of the CWG related projects. The chief secretary had then also briefed the officials about the procedures needed to be followed while extending support to the probe agencies.
The Central Vigilance Commission, in a letter to Mehta last week, had requested him to produce all details about CWG spending by the Delhi government and to avoid transfers while the probe is going on.
Various agencies, including the PWD, had spent over `16,000 crores to enhance city infrastructure ahead of the Games. The PWD principal secretary K.K. Sharma who has now been transferred had earlier in the week stated that the department has kept all the documents relating to all CWG projects ready and will offer full support to any probe. While the CVC teams are studying records of spending by PWD, urban development, transport, environment, power and tourism, the CAG was making an audit report of the transactions of the government for the Games.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
