Green card-holder hangs self to death
A man, who had come home last year from the US to tend to his ailing father, allegedly committed suicide at his Vasant Kunj residence in south Delhi on Tuesday.
The incident took place at D-7348, Vasant Kunj (south) at around 7 am on Tuesday. The deceased, identified as Dheeraj, 32, was found hanging from the ceiling fan by his mother who immediately made a call to her relatives and the police control room.
A team of policemen arrived at the spot and rushed the victim to AIIMS where he was declared brought dead by the doctors.
The police said no suicide note was recovered from the house or on the person of the deceased and it is being suspected that financial problems caused by unemployment and emotional strain of his father’s illness could have led him to take the extreme step.
“Dheeraj, who holds a US Green Card, had returned from the US last year after his father became unwell. His father is in coma for the past three years. Dheeraj was not able to find a proper job for himself which added to his woes,” a police official said.
The victim’s wife is in the US where she is pursuing her higher education.
“Dheeraj was earlier working in the US but had to come back due to the illness of his father. We are trying to contact his wife to ascertain the exact reasons behind his taking the extreme step. The body has been sent for post-mortem and further investigations are on,” the official said.
Meanwhile, a 24-year-old man, Rajesh, died in Uttam Nagar on Monday evening here after being injured in a stove explosion while making tea for his mother, the police said on Tuesday.
