Haryana cop arrested for trafficking
A serving sub-inspector of Haryana police has been arrested by the IGI airport police for his alleged involvement in human trafficking.
The police arrested Gurlal Singh, a resident of Jind, Haryana, at the IGI airport on December 8 after his passport and visa were found to have been tampered with. He
wanted to board a flight to Tehran on a Turkey visa. During interrogation, Gurlal told the police that he had procured the visa from one Nirmal Singh for `7 lakhs. Out of this, he had paid `4 lakhs and $500 advance in cash. He wanted to go to Greece via Turkey. It turned out that Nirmal was a sub-inspector in Haryana Armed Police. He was arrested on Friday.
Nirmal told the police that he was involved in human trafficking for the past two years. He also revealed that Gurlal’s passport was re-stitched after inserting a page having a visa sticker for Turkey.
Efforts are now on to identify and arrest his accomplices.
