HC: Arrange blood for HIV+ woman
Coming to the rescue of a HIV positive pregnant woman, Justice S. Muralidhar of the Delhi high court in an interim order on Friday directed the Lady Hardinge Medical College and Sucheta Kriplani Hospital to immediately arrange blood for her following a dip in her haemoglobin level.
The court directed the hospital to arrange blood for the woman as her husband is also HIV positive and could not donate to her.
“There is an urgent need to issue directions to ensure the protection of the right to health and life of the petitioner’s wife and the foetus,” the court said.
The court passed the order after hearing a petition filed by the petitioner husband who sought a direction to the hospitals for immediately arranging the blood for his wife who is in an advanced stage of pregnancy.
Filing the petition, the man said his wife is nine months’ pregnant and was admitted in the LHMC and shifted to Sucheta Kriplani Hospital following a dip in her haemoglobin level.
The petitioner further claimed that he has been asked to procure one unit of blood in order to facilitate the caesarean operation.
