HC imposes `75K fine for PIL ‘misuse’
The Delhi high court imposed a heavy cost of `75,000 on a man ‘misusing’ the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) provision.
Terming the act of the petitioner as “unwarranted heroics,” a division bench comprising Chief Justice of the Delhi HC Dipak Misra and Justice Sanjiv Khanna imposed a penalty of `75,000 on the petitioner for wasting court’s time.
Petitioner S.K. Chatterjee, a real estate consultant, claimed before the court that Rail Land Development Authority has failed to comply with the CVC guidelines while awarding the contracts.

Man to spend 25 yrs in jail for murder

Aug. 13: A city court has sentenced a man to rigorous life imprisonment with the condition that he will not be released before serving jail term for 25 years. Terming as “rare” the murder of a woman by his sister’s husband after a rape bid, ASJ Dr Kamini Lau said though the case did not come in the rarest of rare category, which warrants death penalty, “it certainly falls within the category of rare cases”.
Sentencing Shalimar Bagh-resident Aman Kumar Rastogi, the court said, “The convict is sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for life with the direction that he shall not be considered for grant of remission till he spends 25 years in jail.”
