HC refuses to stay Blueline phaseout
After observing that the life of pedestrians in the city is more important than the issue of livelihood of Blueline bus operators, a division bench comprising Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Valmiki J. Mehta of the Delhi high court on Monday declined to restrain a government notification to phaseout the Blueline buses.
The court dismissed the plea of the Blueline bus operators that their source of bread and butter would be taken away with the phasing out of Blueline buses.
An unmoved court rather observed, “What about bread and butter of family members of those who lost their life due to Blueline buses?”
The division bench also refused to stay the Delhi government’s October 27 notification to phaseout Blueline from the city.
The court, however, agreed to hear the bus operators grievance and asked the Delhi government to file its response and posted the matter for further hearing to January 10 next year.
The court passed the order on a petition filed by the Federation of Blueline bus operators, which has challenged the government’s decision to phase out Blueline buses.
The city government has issued a notification on October 27, after getting approval from Delhi lietenant governor Tejinder Khanna. There are around 2,400 privately-owned Blueline buses currently operating in Delhi and only 800 of them will continue to ply till December 14, the deadline set by the government for its total removal.
