HC relief to over 3,000 students of IP university
In a major relief to more than three thousand students pursuing their technical and other professional courses, the Delhi high court on Tuesday directed Guru Govind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIU) to promote them to academic year 2010-2011.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Manmohan upheld the single judge bench order, which had allowed the petition filed by 107 students and directed the university to promote them to second year.
The bench, however, made it clear that the new criteria would applicable on them for promotion to third year, and dismissed the appeal filed by the University challenging the single judge’s last week’s order.
The university had denied promotion to over 3,500 students to second year, stating that the amendment in the Indraprastha Vishwa Vidyalaya Act. These students were from various courses like B. Tech, MBA, MCA and others.
