HC seeks cops’ reply on Vikas bail
After hearing the bail plea of Vikas Yadav, who is serving rigorous life imprisonment in the Nitish Katara murder case, a division bench headed by Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed on Friday issued a notice to the police and sought its response on the bail plea on April 7.
37-year-old Vikas Yadav had in his bail application moved the Delhi high court seeking an interim bail for a period of three months for attending the marriage ceremonies of his younger brother Kunal.
Vikas, son of controversial Uttar Pradesh leader D.P. Yadav, and his cousin Vishal are undergoing life imprisonment at the Tihar Jail after being convicted by a lower court for killing young management graduate Nitish Katara on the intervening night of February 16-17, 2002.
In the application, Vikas, whose appeal against the conviction is still pending in the high court, said that his younger brother is scheduled to get married on April 29 and other ceremonies associated with the marriage would commence from April 14 itself.
A lower court had in May 2008 sentenced Vikas Yadav and his cousin Vishal for killing Nitish Katara, son of an IAS officer.
According to the prosecution, Vikas and Vishal had allegedly kidnapped Katara from a marriage party in Ghaziabad and later killed him as they were against Katara’s intimacy with their sister Bharati Yadav.
