HC tells govt to hike aid amount
The Delhi high court on Wednesday directed the government of Delhi and the Centre to enhance the compensation being provided to the victims of the September 7 bomb blast at the Delhi high court.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice of the Delhi HC Dipak Misra and Justice Sanjiv Khanna also directed that an ex-gratia amount of `10 lakh compensation be paid to kins of the deceased and the permanently disabled as well as `3 lakh to those suffering from serious injuries.
Those suffering from minor injuries are to be given `20,000, as per the court direction.
It was submitted before the court by government counsel, Nazim Waziri, that `6 lakh has already been disbursed to the kith and kin of each deceased till now and `3 lakh has been paid to permanently incapacitated. `2 lakh has also been paid to those seriously injured and `10,000 to those with minor injuries.
The court, while directing the GNCT and the Centre to enhance the compensation also directed that the total compensation amount has to be shared equally by both and should be disbursed in three weeks.
Mr Waziri also submitted that the government would categorise the bills of the medical expenses for the treatment undergone by the victims under freeship quota both for private and government hospitals.
He further submitted that artificial limbs will be provided to the amputees.
On the issue of education and job opportunities for the surviving children and family members of the deceased and the permanently disabled the court directed that education be provided free of cost by the state and the government to consider aspect of job opportunities.
Assistant solicitor general (ASG) A.S. Chandioke appeared on the behalf of the Union.
The court passed the order after hearing a PIL filed by advocate Gaurav Kumar Bansal who also sought information regarding the measures taken by the investigative agencies to prevent such terrorist activities in Delhi.
