HC upholds conviction in bribery case
Upholding a sessions court’s earlier order, Justice Mukta Gupta of the Delhi high court on Thursday asked a MTNL employee to serve the three-years jail term for taking `400 in bribe for installing a telephone at a shop.
Rejecting the plea of petitioner- Harish Kumar that even the complainant, who lodged the case with the CBI in 1993, did not stand by his statement during the departmental proceedings against him, the court said, “The case against the petitioner (Harish Kumar) is proved beyond reasonable doubt.” Kumar was allegedly caught red-handed by the CBI in 1993 in his office while accepting a a bribe of `400. He had demanded the money for installing a telephone at a PCO.
