HC upholds conviction of call centre employee
After relying on the dying declaration of the victim, the Delhi high court has upheld the conviction of a former employee of a call centre here who had murdered his girlfriend when he came to know that she was in love with her boss.
A division bench of the court comprising Justice A.K. Sikri and Justice Ajit Bharihoke upheld the conviction of the convict, Abhishek Sharma, after relying on the dying declaration made by the victim, Mandeep Kaur, to the investigating officer (IO) and her mother.
The other vital evidence which went against the convict was the last seen account given by a manger of the call centre.
The manager had told the trial court judge that the victim, Mandeep, and the accused had left the office on that fateful day on September 20, 2007, together after duty hours.
According to the prosecution, the accused used to drop Mandeep at her residence in Shalimar Bagh after duty hours late at night.
On the fateful day, the accused instead of taking the usual route had taken the victim to Model Town in north Delhi.
He stopped his Alto car near the Queens Mary School in Model Town and started quarrelling with the victim, alleging that she was in love with her boss. During the course of the quarrel, the accused poured kerosene on the victim and set her on fire.
After getting information about the incident, the PCR van found the girl in flames near the school and she was rushed to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) hospital where she died.
