Help kills woman for opposing his adoption

In a bizarre incident, a 42-year-old woman was allegedly strangulated by her domestic help, who had been working in her household for over 15 years, early on Thursday. The incident was reported from Sunlight Colony in southeast Delhi.

The police said that the woman was opposed to the idea of her husband adopting the domestic help as his son, fearing that he may begin asking for his share in the property, valued in crores. The accused, identified as Anil (35), a native of Bihar, was arrested after a minor boy, whom he used in allegedly committing the crime, reportedly spilled the beans to the police.
According to the police, it was 20-year-old Shivang Sharma, son of Meenakshi Sharma, who saw his mother lying unconscious in her room with her clothes dishevelled. The police was informed at around 7.30 am. Ms Sharma was declared brought dead in a nearby hospital. Since there were signs of ransacking in the house, the police initially thought that it could be a case of robbery. However, following Anil’s interrogation and that of the minor boy, who was brought here by Anil’s mother-in-law a few days ago from her native place in Bihar, the former was arrested. Anil told the police that he had asked the boy, aged around nine, to get into Ms Sharma’s room that was locked from inside through the cavity left for exhaust fan and unbolt the door. When the boy carried out his instructions, Anil went in her room and strangled her with the draw string of the shalwar she was wearing. He decided not to flee and created signs of ransacking. Meanwhile, he also bolted the door of Shivang’s room from outside. Shivang, a student of mass communication from Punjab University, had gone to sleep at around 3.30 a.m. When he woke up in the morning, he found the door locked from outside. He then raised an alarm following which a man, who used to collect garbage daily, opened his door. The police said Anil used to stay in the house of his employers. Investigations have revealed that Ms Sharma, who ran a beauty parlour, was not on talking terms with her husband.
