High rates push Delhiites to Gurgaon, Noida pubs, bars
The officials of the revenue and excise department of Delhi are sweating in the cold as neighbouring states are attracting the booze lovers with low costs. Gurgaon has done the maximum damage but Noida and Ghaziabad are also becoming a hot spot to hang out.
The revenue department officials said that the hotels, pubs and bars in neighbouring states are luring booze lovers with lower prices.
“During the New Year celebrations, Delhiites spend a lot of money on liquor. On an average 50 per cent of the population celebrates with liquor which brings in good revenue for the government. But from last year, Delhiites are going to the neighbouring cities to celebrate which is impacting the revenue,” said a revenue department official.
The officials said that the change in the trend came after the Commonwealth Games 2010 when many hotels and bars opened in Gurgaon, Ghaziabad and Noida.
“The cheap rates at pubs and bars in Gurgaon are attracting booze-loving crowd from Delhi. Bars in Noida and Ghaziabad are also serving liquor on less prices than the bars in Delhi and snatching the customers from Delhi,” the official added.
The most desirable pubs and discos are charging around `12,000 per couple in Delhi for the New Year eve party. But in the neighbouring cities, the happening pubs are charging almost 50 per cent less amount. Apart from the pubs, the bars in Delhi also raised their rates for the New Year celebrations but the bars in neighbouring cities have lowered prices.
The small bars, which opened in a bunch in the neighbouring cities, are also attracting the lower middle class customers, who are not able to pay heavy bills of bars in Delhi.
