Hospitals gear up to contain flu
With two deaths due to H1N1 being reported in the city, the hospital authorities have begun gearing up to ensure that the disease does not spread.
At least two other persons admitted in the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash hospital are said to be in a stable condition, though not completely out of danger. At RML hospital, an Australian woman, who was put on ventilator, is now reported be recovering.
“We have issued a circular instructing the government and private hospitals to activate the facilities wherever there are H1N1 wards. Apart from that, there are 13 nodal centres,” a senior health official S. Bhattacha-rjee said, adding that in the wake of monsoon season, the onslaught of H1N1 was expected. However, the virus is mild this season.
“We can infer that the virus is mild because none of the immediate family member of the boy from Ghaziabad, who died due to H1N1, was affected,” Dr Bhattacharjee said.
Meanwhile, with two fresh cases reported on Wednesday, the total number of dengue cases reached 10 this season. Two more patients, one from Rohini area and the other from Civil Lines, tested positive for the disease.
