Security agencies have been put on a high alert after Intelligence Bureau warned the Delhi police last week that a Lashkar-e-Tayyaba operative may have gained entry into the city to carry out a terror strike during the upcoming Republic Day celebrations.
Top intelligence agency sources confirmed to this newspaper that the information about the Lashkar operative identified as one Rehman was conveyed to the Delhi police by IB last week.
Sources said Rehman is believed to be heavily armed and carrying sophisticated weapons and gadgetry and may have specifically entered Delhi with a mission to disrupt R-Day celebrations.
“We don’t know his location. There are active Indian Mujahideen sleeper modules in the city and Rehman may try to get in touch with their members to carry out a terror strike on the upcoming Republic Day celebrations. We are taking every measure to disrupt any attempt to strike the city,” a top special cell official said.
Alarmed by the development, the special cell officers have also began briefing district police officials in Delhi about the measures that shall be taken to ensure that any suspicious person seen in the city is detected and peace prevails in the city.
“After the information about Rehman was received, a team of special cell officials has begun visiting every district in the city and a team comprising of an inspector along with four sub-inspectors and 15 other personnel from the district police are being trained to deal with this terror threat. They are being trained on how to quickly identify any suspect staying in the city,” a source said.
Last week, such a meeting was held in the south district and it is expected to engage other districts of the national capital in the coming days.
The police is also monitoring the activities of suspicious “Naxal sympathisers” and many NGOs are being watched closely, “The Naxals have found a safe haven in the city and they to may plan to disrupt the upcoming celebrations. We are taking every measure to prevent any such attempt,” the source said.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
