Illegal crackers worth `30 lakhs seized
The crime branch of Delhi police recovered at least 3,000 kg of illegal crackers in raids on Monday. The police has deputed a special team to tackle the illegal crackers’ business in the city.
The police has arrested two persons for storing illegal crackers.
“On a secret information, our special team raided a hosiery shop in Sarai Rohilla area and recovered 1,185 kg of illegal crackers. The owner of the godown, Prashant, was arrested. In another raid in Uttam Nagar area of west Delhi, the team recovered 1,530 kg of illegal crackers from a stationary shop owner. The accused, identified as Kapil, has been arrested,” said a senior police official.
The police said that the accused did not have a valid license to keep such dangerous crackers and the team found that they did not have proper fire safety equipment in their storage causing threat to their own lives as well as of the neighbours.
“The duo was arrested under Section 286 of the IPC (public safety act). The crackers seized from their possession are worth around `30 lakhs during the festive season. More raids will carry on to prevent any kind of mishap due to illegal crackers,” the official added.
