Illyasi may face murder charge

Rukam Singh, mother of deceased Anju Illyasi, on Thursday moved the Karkardooma court seeking to frame the additional charge of murder against Anju’s husband Suhaib Illyasi, anchor and producer of TV serial India’s Most Wanted, for her daughter’s death in 2000.

At present, Suhaib is being tried for the charges of dowry death and cruelty, which are milder than murder. Moving an application through her counsel Satinder Sharma, Rukam pleaded before the court to frame charges of murder, destruction of evidence and forgery against Suhaib. in view of “new facts” that emerged during the recording of evidence in the case. After taking cognisance of the application, additional sessions judge (ASJ) Sanjay Garg asked Suhaib to file his reply on September 7.
In the plea, Rukam submitted that there were certain circumstances which were not taken into consideration by the police while filing the chargesheet.
