Incessant rains in city, more likely today
The city received incessant rains for the second consecutive day on Sunday, with the mercury dipping to make a pleasant weekend for the Delhiites.
The weatherman forecast more rains on Monday. According to the meteorological department, the city recorded 62.7 mm of rain in 24 hours on Sunday. The overall rains during the day in last 12 hours till 5.30 pm was recorded as 8.1 mm.
So far, the city has received a total 304.9 mm of rains after the monsoon reached the city on July 5.
Sunday being a holiday, traffic jams like the ones seen Saturday didn’t take place as there were fewer vehicles on the road in the morning.
The maximum temperature on Sunday was recorded at 32.8 degrees Celsius, a notch below the average, while the minimum temperature was at 24 degrees Celsius, three notches below average, as per the Met department. As per the weatherman, the humidity level oscillated between a high of 97 percent and a low of 61 percent.
“The maximum temperature on Monday is likely to be 32 degrees Celsius, while the minimum will be 25 degrees Celsius,” the Met department said.
There will generally be a cloudy sky with few spells of rain or thundershowers in the next 24 hours. It may be heavy in some areas of the city, the Met official said.
The MCD control room received 49 complaints of water-logging, 18 complaints related to falling of trees and 8 reports of buildings collapsing till 2 pm, an official said. The continuous rainfall disrupted normal life for commuters Saturday with flooding in low-lying areas causing traffic snarls in many areas.
