International dance fest by ICCR begins today
The Indian Council for Cultural Relations is organising a unique dance festival for the first time that will witness the performances by renowned foreign artistes who have mastered various Indian dance forms. The three-day dance festival titled International Dance Festival will begin on Monday. The performances will be at 6.30 pm in the Kamani Auditorium.
“There are number of foreigners who have mastered Indian dance and music. We thought of bringing them on one platform and showcase it to Indian audience. This will be a memorable performance for the audience,” director general Suresh Kumar Goel said.
Talking about the artistes who will be performing during the festival, Mr Goel said, “Ramli Ibrahim is a renowned Odissi dancer from Malaysia. He got training under legendary Odissi dancer Kelucharan Mahapatra.” “Nhlanhla Vincent Zwane from South Africa does Bhartnatyam in a unique style. He has fused African tribal dance with Bharatnatyam. He uses mridangam, tabla and African Madimba for percussion. His choreography is a fusion of grace of Bharatna-tyam and force of African tribal dance. Its mesmerising,” Mr Goel added.
Other performers include Anne Deitrich and Kathakali dancer Isa Jacobi from Germany, Kuchipudi dancer Irina Strakhovenko from Russia.
