Jan Ahaar scheme launched

Chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday launched the Jan Ahaar Yojana to ensure full nutritious meal twice a day to hundreds of persons at Rs 15 per meal across the city from seven Jan Ahaar Centres. Ms Dikshit inaugurated a Jan Ahaar Centre at the Asaf Ali Road.

Delhi social welfare minister Mangat Ram Singhal, health minister Kiran Walia, chief secretary Rakesh Mehta and secretary, social welfare, Manoj Parida were also present on the occasion.
Ms Dikshit said that the scheme aims to provide nutritious food to the poor.
The scheme will be implemented in association with a number of selected women organisations and NGOs having experience in cooking and providing healthy and nutritious food to a large number of persons.
Government officials informed that a weekly menu has been chalked out by the Nutrition Council of India and an expert from St. Stephen’s Hospital.
