JNU polls: Aisa wins all 4 posts
Left-affiliated All India Students Association (Aisa) made a strong presence in the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) election yet again by winning all the four top posts in the central panel.
AISA candidate Akbar Chawdhary was elected to the post of president. The other three Aisa candidates who have won the posts for vice-president, general secretary and joint secretary are Anubhuti Agnes Bara, Sandeep Saurav and Sarfaraz Hamid respectively.
Mr Chawdhary polled 1,979 votes against Democratic Students Federation (DSF) candidate Ishan Anand’s 660. The victory came with a huge margin of 1,319 votes.
The other candidates who were in the fray for the post of president are ABVP’s Alok Kumar Singh, SFI’s Rahul and NSUI’s Pran Veer Singh.
Mr Chawdhary, the newly elected JNUSU president, said that the victory shows a clear mandate of student’s choice against the “manufactured myths of Modi or Rahul Gandhi as youth icons.”
“Aisa’s role in the movements against corruption, against rape and for women’s freedom and against the FYUP and other anti-student measures have been appreciated by students who want to see more such powerful struggles in the future. It’s also a mandate for Aisa’s track record in the JNUSU, of struggling for admission policies to open JNU’s doors to the marginalised sections, and for scholarships, hostels, library and other facilities,” Mr Chawdhary said.
