Judge asked reasons for case recusal
Not satisfied with the trial court judge who recused himself from hearing a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case citing personal reasons, district judge Vimla Makin on Monday asked the Karkardooma court additional sessions judge (ASJ) V.K. Goyal to give reasons for recusing himself in the case in which senior Congress leader Sajjan Kumar is an accused.
On May 21, ASJ Goyal was to pronounce the order on an application of the prosecution seeking direction on a chargesheet that was prepared by the police against Kumar but never submitted before a judicial officer.
The judge had then decided to send the file to the district judge for transferring it to another court.
Meanwhile, another court, which was to formally frame charges against Kumar and others in a different 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, deferred the matter till May 28.
The adjournment came after Anil Kumar Sharma, counsel for accused Krishan Khokhar, submitted that his client was indisposed due to heat stroke.
