JUDGE visits crime spot in case of girl’s gangrape

A judge trying the case of gangrape of a minor epileptic girl was forced to visit various spots linked with the offence “in the interest of justice” after the police failed to prepare the site plan of the crime.
Additional sessions judge Kamini Lau visited a slum at Jahangirpuri in northwest Delhi from where the girl had been kidnapped and other places, including the one where she had allegedly been held captive for several days and gangraped by five people last year.
The other places visited by the judge included the place where the victim was left after the incident and from where the girl’s father had called up the police to get an idea of the distance between Jahangir-puri police station and the scene of crime.
“Spot inspection of the jhuggi clusters at Jahangirpuri has been conducted by the court duly accompanied by public prosecutor, defence counsel and the investigating officer. These places have been duly inspected and observations regarding relevant facts prepared,” the court said, fixing the matter for additional arguments on Friday.

Stephen’s staff to protest against principal thampu

New Delhi, Jan. 12

The staff association of the St. Stephen’s College will wear black bands and hold a dharna on Friday to protest against the “unjust” actions being initiated by principal Valson Thampu against some individuals. The issue at the centre of the controversy is the disciplinary proceedings against Professor M.S. Frank, who has questioned Thampu’s eligibility to be the principal of the college.
An inquiry was initiated last month against Prof. Frank on a series of charges of misconduct in college.
The staff association, in a meeting on Wednesday, questioned the manner in which Thampu brought the matter before the college governing body and obtained necessary nod for initiating a case of misconduct against him.
They felt the actions were directed against Prof. Frank to pressurise him to withdraw his case challenging Tham-pu’s appointment. Besides, the staff is also agitated by the “derogatory” and “threatening” remarks in the minutes of the governing body meeting circulated by Thampu against a woman staffer who had taken up her complaint of sexual harassment with the governing body.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
