Justice Misra is Delhi HC Chief Justice
Former 56-year-old Justice Dipak Misra on Monday took over as the new Chief Justice of the Delhi high court, three months after former Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah retired on February 13. Justice Madan B. Lokur was working as the acting Chief Justice since then.
Chief Justice Dipak Misra was administered the oath of office and secrecy by lieutenant-governor Tejendra Khanna at Raj Bhavan here. The oath-taking ceremony was attended by several dignitaries including chief minister Sheila Dikshit, her cabinet colleagues and several high court judges.
Justice Misra disposed off 14 cases on his first day in the Delhi high court.
Justice Misra was born on October 3, 1953. He was enrolled as an advocate on February 14, 1977 and he practiced in constitutional, civil, criminal, revenue, service and sales tax matters in the Orissa high court and the Service Tribunal.
Justice Misra was appointed as an additional judge of the Orissa high court on January 17, 1996 and was transferred to the Madhya Pradesh high court on March 3, 1997. He became a permanent judge on December 19, 1997.
Justice Misra assumed charge as the Chief Justice of Patna high court on December 23, 2009.
Justice Misra took over the charge of Chief Justice of the Delhi high court after former Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah retired on February 13.
