Kalindi Metro to get extension
The Noida Authority chief executive officer on Thursday gave nod in principle to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for extending the Kalindi Kunj metro line here.
The approval came from Noida Authority CEO Rama Raman after the DMRC presented a detailed project report on Kalindi Kunj extension plan at a meeting here. The project is supposed to be completed by 2016 with an estimated cost of `874 crores.
From Kalindi Kunj to Botanical Garden, the metro line would be 3.9 km long with two stations at Amity School and Kalindi Kunj.
The proposed line would connect Sarita Vihar and Kalkaji-Nehru Place.
The next review meeting is scheduled to be held next week.
Besides, the Delhi Metro will introduce an advanced communication-based signalling system in its Phase-III project that will enable it to run trains at a short frequency of 90 seconds.
Delhi Metro’s outgoing managing director E. Sreedharan said the advanced technology, currently operational in Metro systems abroad, can also be used in the existing Phase-I and II lines when their signalling system is due for replacement.
Communication Based Train Control (CBTC), as the technology is known, will allow Delhi Metro to run trains every 1.5 minutes instead of the current frequency of 2.5 minutes.
The high-end signalling system would reduce the waiting time of passengers on platforms.
“We can run trains every 90 seconds which is not possible with the present signalling system. There (in CBTC) we can go for 90 seconds and that is equivalent for 10-coach trains,” said Mr Sreedharan, who retires on December 31.
