Katara killers’ visits to hospital irk HC
The Delhi high court on Thursday said the frequent visits by Vikas and Vishal Yadav to hospitals for treatment were uncalled for and directed the AIIMS to get the duo examined by a medical board.
A bench of Justices Gita Mittal and V.K. Shali termed as “unreasonable” the numerous trips to AIIMS and Batra Hospital undertaken by the two convicts after going through the Tihar jail records, and asked the hospitals to produce their medical records within three weeks.
The records submitted before the court by Tihar jail superintendent stated that while Vikas visited AIIMS more than 80 times for an orthopaedic disorder, Vishal visited Batra Hospital over 40 times for tuberculosis treatment.
“These are unreasonable visits. No record suggested that the treatment for TB was given. It appeared there was no need of their hospital visits.”
The court took serious note of the fact that Vikas had stayed in an “A-class” luxury room in a private ward of AIIMS from October 10 to November 4 last year for a CT scan of his knee and spine but nothing was done during that period and the scan was finally conducted on him as an OPD patient. He paid `7,000 for the CT scan while all other expenses were borne by the state.
“Before passing any order, the bench would like to know the present health condition of the convicts,” the court said, ordering that the duo be examined by a medical board in AIIMS at 11 am on February 7.
The bench directed AIIMS to submit Vikas’ medical records since 2008 till date in a sealed cover and asked Batra Hospital to produce the same pertaining to Vishal’s treatment there till date.
