Khushwant: This is last book, I promise
Khushwant Singh came clean on his decision to pen the “last” book at the launch of The Sunset Club, released by Gursharan Kaur, wife of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, at the Le Meridien hotel in New Dellhi on Tuesday evening.
“Even though I have said this six times earlier, I promise that this is my last book,” Singh said.
The launch of the last book by India’s best-known author, journalist and columnist was held between 7-8 pm, an hour Singh is known to devote to drinking, relaxing and socialising every evening. Even at 95, he has stuck to his age-old schedule.
Talking about his formula for writing, Singh said that when he decided to write he only wanted to “inform, amuse and provoke”. And in doing so, he only ended up making “bullshit into an art form”.
Mrs Kaur said Singh had a fertile mind and a fertile pen.
The Sunset Club (Penguin Books) is the story of three octogenarians, friends for over 40 years, who meet every evening to talk about love and lust and many things in between.
The Sunset Club comes close on the heels of Absolute Khushwant: The Low-Down on Life, Death and Most Things In-Between, which came out earlier this year.
