Kidnapped boy killed, accused held
A three-year-old Delhi boy was murdered and his body dumped in Aligarh by two young men of northeast Delhi after the deceased’s father failed to meet their Rs 10 lakhs ransom demand, the police said.
The deceased, identified as Muhammad Amin, was allegedly abducted by the accused, Shehzad and Naseem, residents of Gokalpuri, on August 12 from outside his residence when he was playing with his friends. “Amin was taken out of Delhi by the accused in a car who demanded Rs 10 lakhs from Muhammad Irfan, the deceased’s father. Irfan alerted the police about the incident and a manhunt was launched to nab the accused,” a source said.
The police said Irfan, a property dealer, who earlier resided in Old Mustafabad, had rented an apartment in Gokalpuri last month where he stayed with his family. Shehzad’s father, a businessman, owned the apartment. “The two accused had planned to extort money from Irfan and lured the victim on the pretext of offering him a ride. They made him talk to his father on August 17 from Ghaziabad after which a case of kidnapping was registered,” a police official said.
Irfan got a ransom call on August 21 demanding Rs 10 lakhs for his safe release. “We mounted electronic surveillance on the number from which the ransom call was made. Investigations pointed towards the involvement of Shehzad. His movements were found suspicious. He was held on Monday and questioned following which he broke down and confessed to the crime,” the official said.
The police recovered the deceased’s body from Aligarh at the instance of the accused.
“Shehzad used to visit the victim’s house regularly after murdering Amin to keeping a watch on what his family was doing in the case,” the official said.
