Koli gets death in 3rd case

Surender Koli, the prime accused in the Nithari serial killings, was sentenced to death by a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Tuesday for murdering eight-year-old-girl Rachna. This is his third death penalty awarded to Koli by the CBI court.

Special CBI judge A.K. Singh sentenced Koli to death for brutally murdering eight-year-old Rachna, daughter of a labourer Pappu Lal. The court had earlier sentenced Koli, domestic help of Noida businessman Moninder Singh Pandher, to death in Rimpa Haldar and Arti murder cases.
Koli appeared calm and his face showed no emotion after hearing the death sentence. After the court pronounced the order on sentence against Koli, the police, due to security reasons, took Koli away from the rear gate of the court.
After hearing the arguments of both the prosecution and the defence, the court convicted Koli to death under Sections 302 (murder), 362 (abduction), 376 (rape) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code in the Rachna murder case. The court has on Monday convicted Koli in the Rachna murder case after a trial spanning over 122 days.
A total of 47 prosecution witnesses deposed in the case.
Rachna went to buy groceries from a shop on April 10, 2006. When she did return, her father, Pappu Lal, lodged a complaint with the police. The matter was subsequently transferred to the CBI. The probe agency made Koli the sole accused in Rachna’s killing and let off Pandher after not finding any evidence against him.
Pandher was also awarded death sentence in Rimpa Haldar murder case but he was acquitted by the Allahabad High Court. Millions across the country and abroad were horrified when the Noida police on December 29, 2006, started uncovering the remains of children and young women from a drain next to Pandher’s (D-5) bungalow in Noida’s Sector 31. Koli and Pandher were arrested thereafter.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
