Koli held guilty in 3rd Nithari case
Surender Koli, the prime accused in Nithari serial killings case, was held guilty by a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Monday for the murder of 8-year-old girl Rachna. This is his third conviction pronounced by the court for murder.
Koli’s punishment for murdering Rachna will be pronounced on Tuesday. The court had earlier sentenced Koli, domestic help of businessman Maninder Singh Pandher, to death in the Rimpa Haldhar and Arti murder cases.
A total of 47 prosecution witnesses deposed in this case linked to the serial killings that took place in Nithari village in Noida.
The victim, Rachna, daughter of Pappu Lal, went out of her house to buy grocery from a local shop April 10, 2006 but never returned. Pappu Lal lodged a complaint with the police. The matter was subsequently transferred to CBI.
The agency made Koli the sole accused in Rachna’s killing. Pandher was not named in the chargesheet after the CBI was convinced that he was not involved in the crime, said Khalid Khan, a lawyer representing families of Nithari victims.
Noida police had on December 29, 2006, begun uncovering remains of children and women from a drain next to Pandher’s D-5 bungalow in Noida, Sector 31. Koli and Pandher were arrested thereafter.
Of the 19 cases of abduction, rape and murder of four women and 15 children, mostly girls, the CBI has filed chargesheets in 16 cases. All the cases are being heard separately. While Koli has been charged with rape, abduction and murder in all the cases, Pandher is co-accused in six cases.
