L-G, officials take stock of Games projects
Lieutenant-governor Tejendra Khanna on Saturday presided over a high-level meeting attended by Union Cabinet Secretary K.M. Chandrashekhar and head of various agencies to hammer out inter-departmental issues coming in the ways of the preparations of the Commonwealth Games.
A number of decisions were taken in the meeting with Mr Chandrashekhar telling all the stakeholders that the lieutenant-governor would be calling meetings to address issues which pose problem in the preparations of the Games. The next plenary meeting of all the stakeholders, including the Organising Committee, has been fixed for August 17 to be presided over by the lieutenant-governor.
Among the decisions taken in Saturday’s meeting was to allow sale of tickets within the stadia during the intervening time period of various sporting events. “If a viewer after watching a certain event wants to stay in the stadium to watch another even, he will now have the facilities to buy tickets without coming out of the stadium. The Organising Committee has been asked to make arrangements for sale of tickets within the premises of the stadia,” stated a senior official.
In another decision, all the stadia owners have been asked to create more number of facilities of toilets within their premises for volunteers, security personnel and other staff members. This decision was taken after the meeting took note of the fact that there were not enough toilet facilities in the stadia for the volunteers and the security personnel.
All the stakeholders gave demonstration about their respective works, with the Organising Committee giving presentation on how to conduct the mega-sporting events. The four-hour long marathon meeting also took stock of the streetscaping work and its status.
