Lajpat Nagar rape case: Youth charge sheeted for attempt to rape
The Delhi police has filed its charge sheet in a court here against a youth for allegedly wrongfully confining and attempting to rape a teenaged girl and shoving an iron rod into her mouth when she resisted his attempt.
In its charge sheet filed before metropolitan magistrate Amitabh Rawat, the police said accused Anil Devraj had attempted to rape and murder the 19-year-old student after trespassing into her house in south Delhi on the night of February 4.
Twenty-five-year-old Anil, working with a local power distribution company, was arrested by the police on February 5 after a case was lodged against him by the family members of the girl, who was studying in class XI.
Anil had come to the girl’s house on the night of the incident to collect monthly electricity bill and since the girl knew him, she let him inside the house at Lajpat Nagar, the police said.
“After coming to know that the girl was alone in the house, Anil tried to force himself on her and assaulted her when she resisted,” the charge sheet said.
The police said the man inserted a rod into her mouth when she shouted for help and resisted his attempt to rape her.
“She sustained severe injuries in her mouth and the attempted strangulation had left bruises all around her neck,” it said. The victim was rushed to the Safdarjung Hospital.
The police said Anil attempted to rape the girl and assaulted her as she had refused his proposal for friendship.
After taking cognisance of the charge sheet, the magistrate committed it to the court of additional sessions judge Yogesh Khanna for trial. The matter has now been fixed for framing of charges.
