Legislators mourn loss in Japan
The Delhi Assembly on Tuesday passed a resolution to mourn loss of lives and property in Japan following the devastating earthquake and Tsunami on March 11. The Delhi Assembly legislators also chose the occasion to caution the government to improve disaster management preparedness in the city.
Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit moved a resolution in the House to condole death and tragedy in Japan. MLAs, cutting across the party lines, offered their condolences.
However, the MLAs also posed the question to the government that if an earthquake of higher magnitude strikes the city, devastation could be manifold.
“The situation in the Old Delhi area is such that even fire extinguishers can’t reach the narrow lanes of the area. If a similar situation like Japan arises in the capital, the loss of lives and property would be unimaginable,” an MLA said.
