Lt. Gov. inspects Games Village
Amidst slackness in the completion of the Games Village even when the mega sporting events is just 99 days away, Delhi lieutenant governor Tejendra Khanna on Friday set timelines for completion of the village apart from asking officials to speed up the work. As per the timeline fixed by the lieutenant governor, the Games Village
will be handed over to the Organising Committee on August 1, while the officials have been told to clear the site of labour camps and garbage by July 5. After inspecting all the 34 towers at the Games Village, Mr Khanna told reporters that he is 100 per cent satisfied with the progress of the work. However, the officials conceded that the slackness had cropped in the completion of the Games Village, with debris and garbage piling up at the site for which just seven vehicles were pressed into service. However, after the intervention of the lieutenant governor, the construction company has reportedly pressed in about 100 vehicles to clear the site of debris, while about 5,000 labourers have now been employed to do the job, added the official.
“The place earmarked for the proposed car parking, green belt and polyclinic is being occupied by the labour camp. The DDA has informed the lieutenant governor that the site will be cleared off the labour camp by July 5 and the next day, Mr Khanna will again inspect the place to see if the deadline is met or not,” said Mr Ranjan Mukherjee, the officer on special duty at the Raj Niwas.
The DDA has reportedly told the lieutenant governor that the agency would require 15 days' time to install green belt in the area. The lieutenant governor set a deadline of July 15 to complete horticulture work.
