Maid abducts toddler, held

The Delhi police has rescued a three-year-old boy who was kidnapped by a domestic help from Adarsh Nagar area of northwest Delhi on Sunday.
The police said the accused maid, identified as Rizwana Khatun, took the child to a market near his house in Adarsh Nagar at around 9.40 pm on Sunday night on the pretext of buying ice-cream and later escaped with the toddler.

The police said the victim’s father, identified as Farid Khan, a transporter, had employed Rizwana about a month ago for house-keeping and looking after his two minor kids. During investigation, it was found that the maid was not employed through any placement agency,” deputy commissioner of police (northwest), Meenu Choudhary said.
The accused was reported to be hiding at a place near Adarsh Nagar Metro Station along with the boy and a raid was conducted which led to her arrest.
“Khan used to bring large amounts of cash to his house due to the nature of his business. Rizwana had seen him counting cash on various occasions and she planned to kidnap the victim and later extort ransom from Khan,” Ms Chaudhary said.
“The victim’s family had not verified Rizwana’s antecedents and we request the public that they should get their domestic helps verified so that such incidents are prevented in future. It also helps in quickly nabbing the culprits,” DCP Chaudhary said.
