Man, 27, sets self ablaze after tiff
A 27-year-old man allegedly attempted self immolation on Friday morning near Mandi House in New Delhi area, the police said. The incident took place when the victim, Rajesh, was returning from Bengali Market in his Esteem car with his mother, two younger brothers and a domestic help.
“Rajesh stopped the car near Babar Lane and got out after an argument with his mother. He took out a can filled with some inflammable liquid and poured it over himself and set himself on fire. Before his mother and brothers could react, he was up in flames,” a senior police official said.
The family started screaming for help and a PCR call was made at around 9.45 am. He was taken to RML Hospital where he was admitted with 85 per cent burns. “His condition is critical,” a doctors said. Rajiv, his younger brother, suffered 20 per cent burns.
In the meantime, the family’s Esteem car went missing from the scene. The police investigations have revealed that the victim had an argument with his mother over some issue before he attempted self immolation. “We are waiting for their recovery after which statements will be recorded. It appears that the victim had an argument with his mother over his drinking habit. A case has been registered and investigation is on,” the official said. The victim’s father, Harish Kumar runs a canteen in Patiala House courts and they live in Aram Bagh area of New Delhi district.
