Man, 29, shot dead by chain snatchers
A 29-year-old youth was shot dead by two unidentified men when he tried to resist their attempt to snatch the chain of his wife in the Bhajanpura area of east Delhi. The deceased, Ganesh Puri, an MNC employee, succumbed to injuries at GTB hospital early Saturday.
The investigating officers have so far said that Ganesh was shot twice in abdomen. The incident happened in the crowded community centre in the Bhajanpura area.
“The incident happened when Ganesh and his wife Menakshi were leaving the community centre after having dinner at a restaurant,” said the police. The couple were waylaid by the two men on a motorcycle while they were walking to parking area at the community centre, added the investigating officers. Police officers also said that the motorcyclists waylaid the couple and took them on gunpoint before snatching Menakshi’s gold chain and her bag. “However, when they were trying to flee away, Ganesh pulled one of the assailants from the motorcycle,” said the police, adding that the unidentified man immediately shot Ganesh twice on his abdomen.
While, the bikers fled away, Ganesh was rushed to the GTB hospital, where Menakshi has also alleged that the officials took a lot of time to admit Ganesh. “Ganesh was declared dead due to excessive bleeding around 4.30 am on Saturday, said the police.
The Bhajanpura police station, which has registered an FIR of murder against unidentified men, is also investigating on a possibility of negligence by the hospital officials. Ganesh is survived by wife and a six-month old daughter.
