Man abducts 8-yr boy to stall nuptials
A 34-year-old employee of a civic agency was arrested in southwest Delhi for abduction of his wife’s eight-year-old nephew to foil the marriage of his sister-in-law to whom he was attracted.
The victim went missing from Palam village on January 21 and was taken by the accused, Karambir, to a slum dwelling in Mangolpuri area.
On January 22, Karambir feared that the boy may reveal his name to the family members later and he decided to kill him. The accused, Karambir, then threw the boy in front of a moving train and presumed that the boy was killed.
Miraculously, the victim survived and was immediately spotted by a pedestrian who alerted the police control room.
The victim was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in a CATS van from where he was first shifted to RML and later to Safdarjung Hospital where doctors amputated his right arm to save his life, “His condition is stable,” a senior police official said.
The boy spilled beans and a police team was formed to arrest Karambir.
“The accused was arrested on Wednesday. He was attracted to his sister-in-law and wanted to stop her marriage. He hatched the abduction plan to delay or at least, postpone the marriage,” said DCP (southwest) Sharad Aggarwal.
Investigations revealed that Karambir’s in-laws were also suspicious of his activities.
“We have recovered the motorcycle Karambir used for ferrying the victim to Mangolpuri. The accused is an MCD employee,” a senior police official said.
