Man dies in firing at wedding
A 40-year-old shop owner was shot dead in celebratory firing during a marriage ceremony in west Delhi on Saturday night.
Police officials said the incident took place at around 11.30 pm at an MCD community hall in Budela village of Vikaspuri.
The deceased, identified as Hemant Bijnani, a resident of Dilshad Garden, was shot dead when people started firing in the air to celebrate a wedding ceremony.
“After closing his shop in the Chandni Chowk area, Hemant went to accompany one of his friends attending the wedding. As the procession marched ahead, some people in the wedding party took out pistols and started firing in the air. During the firing, a stray bullet hit Hemant in his chest following which he was immediately rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead,” the official said.
The police officials said they are looking into the matter.
“We are awaiting the post-mortem report of the deceased and an investigation is on. A team of police officials is questioning the people who were attending the wedding ceremony to ascertain the facts in the case,” deputy commissioner of police (west) Sharad Aggarwal said.
