Mayor asked to stop aid to city NGOs
Age Correspondent
New Delhi
Feb. 13: The MCD works committee chairman and BJP councillor Jagdish Mamgain has written a letter to Mayor Prithvi Raj Sawhney asking to stop grant in aids to NGOs and educational institutions, citing the poor financial condition of the civic body.
Mr Mamgain has reasoned that these institutions are taking financial help from many other sources as well, while stating that those getting funds from the civic body should not be getting financial support from other sources.
The MCD had granted `19.51 crores in 2009-10 as grants to 209 NGOs and 45 public primary schools in the city. The poor financial health of the MCD is reflected in its over `2,000 crores debt , while it has to release payment of `686 crores to various project contractors.
Mr Mamgain has reasoned in his letter that the funds being given to the NGOs and educational institutions should rather be used for development works.
