Man gets 6 months for dud cheque
A Delhi court sentenced a man to six months in jail for issuing a dud cheque to his sister-in-law to repay a loan of `3 lakhs.
Additional sessions judge Rajneesh Kumar Gupta sentenced the man to six months in jail, reducing his sentence from a year, awarded by a magisterial court for issuing the cheque which bounced due to insufficient fund in his bank account.
The court awarded the sentence to Ravinder Kapoor, upholding his conviction by the magisterial court’s January 2011 order which also asked him to pay a compensation of `4.5 lakhs to his sister-in-law Sushma Kapoor.
Sushma had advanced a friendly loan of `3 lakhs to Ravinder, who had issued a post-dated cheque for August 6, 2007. When the cheque was presented in the bank, it was returned due to insufficient funds in Ravinder’s accounts and was returned.
Ravinder, on the other hand, argued unsuccessfully that he never issued any cheque to her and that she had stolen his signed cheque and had made the claim for money after filling the amount and date herself. The court, however, rejected his contention due to lack of evidence.
