Man hurt at Games event dies
A former corporator of Pune was killed on Thursday evening outside Commonwealth Games building situated in the heart of the city when preparations were being made for the official launch of Games’ ticketing event.
A case of death due to negligence has been registered against the organisers of the event by the Delhi police. The police officials said the deceased, identified as Shambu Nayak, died when a stage, which was being erected for the function of the Organising Committee, which launched its official website for booking Games’ tickets on Friday, collapsed and fell on him, causing grievous head and spinal injuries to him. He later succumbed at a city hospital.
Police sources said Nayak had come to meet Suresh Kalmadi, the chairman of OC, at 8.30 pm on Thursday when the incident took place. The stage made of aluminium and erected near the reception, collapsed and fell on Nayak. He was taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where he died.
