Man killed in fight over dogs
The barking of dogs sparked an ugly confrontation in west Delhi’s Mundka area on Thursday evening as a man was stabbed to death while his brother is battling for life at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital.
The accused identified as Raj Kumar, 25, a resident of JJ Colony, Bakkarwala in west Delhi, has been arrested. The police claimed to have recovered a sharp-edged knife used in committing the murder from his possession. The incident took place when the deceased, Mewa Lal, 28, a plumber, was passing in front of the accused’s residence in Bakkarwala.
The police said some stray dogs in the street started barking when Mewa Lal was passing by.
“Bal Mukund, the accused’s grandfather, started arguing with Mewa Lal accusing him of inciting street dogs to fight with his pet dog, which triggered a scuffle between the two. In the meantime, Mewa Lal’s brother, Sewa Lal, 26, also arrived at the spot. Meanwhile, Bal Mukund fell down in the altercation. On seeing this, Raj Kumar, who runs a mobile repair shop in the area, brought a knife from his house and stabbed Sewa Lal in the chest. When Mewa Lal intervened, the accused stabbed him too,” DCP (west) V. Renganathan said.
On hearing the commotion and screams of two brothers, the locals rushed to the spot but the accused managed to run away. The police was alerted at around 12.10 pm and the victims were rushed to DDU Hospital where Mewa Lal was declared brought dead while the condition of Sewa Lal is stated to be critical,” Mr Renganathan said.
The police has registered a case of murder and other relevant sections of the IPC against the accused who was arrested late on Thursday night.
