Man killed son over wife’s affair
38-year-old Bhupender Chaudhary, who allegedly hammered his 7-year-old son to death at his Safdarjung residence, told the police on Monday that his wife was allegedly having extramarital affair that forced him to kill his son.
Chaudhary was on Monday sent to 14-days of judicial custody by a city court. The police told the court that Chaudhary had assaulted his son, Arpit, with an iron hammer on Sunday at around 1.30 pm after sending his wife and daughter to collect house rent from his tenants.
According to police sources, Chaudhary revealed during interrogation that he was fed up with the behaviour of his wife and children towards him. “He was suspecting that his wife was having an affair with one of the tenants. This was the main cause behind the bitter relationship between the two,” said an investigating official. He was strongly of the belief that Arpit was not his own son and that his wife and in-laws were going to kill him and grab his property. Upset over the behaviour of his wife, Chaudhary had made three attempts to commit suicide in past few months, the official added.
Arpit, a Class 1 student of Greenfield Public School was playing a game on his laptop when his father attacked him with a hammer. After committing the crime, Chaudhary tried to escape from the spot along with the weapon of crime. He was, however, caught and thrashed badly by the locals after his wife raised an alarm.
