Man stabs parents for money
An elderly couple was stabbed by their 30-year-old son in Janakpuri area of west Delhi on Saturday evening.
Police officials said the incident took place at the residence of Ramesh Kapoor, 63, who lives with his wife, Usha Kapoor, 58, and son, Rohit Kapoor, in an apartment at C-Block, Janakpuri. The couple was rushed in a critical state to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital on Saturday evening after neighbours called the police.
Sources said that Rohit was asking his parents to give him money for opening a gift store. His father, however, opposed the idea and told him that he should recover from his psychiatric illness. “He used to get emotionally surcharged at times. He was also undergoing treatment,” DCP (west) V. Renganathan said. Rohit’s father is a wholesale distributor of books.
On Saturday evening, Rohit again asked his father and mother to let him open the store, “An argument ensued and Rohit turned violent. In a fit of rage, he took out a knife and first stabbed his mother. When Ramesh Kapoor tried to intervene, Rohit stabbed him too,” a senior police official said. The police has arrested Rohit and the statements of his parents, who are in a stable state now, have been recorded.
