Man steals Rs 70 lakhs in diamonds

May 11: A jeweller escaped with diamonds believed to be worth Rs 70 lakhs belonging to another jeweller in Karol Bagh area on Tuesday evening.

According to police officials, the victim, identified as Charanjeet, had taken diamonds worth Rs 70 lakhs from his shop to get them polished from Karol Bagh. He had gone to meet the proprietor of Ridhi Sidhi Jewellers, a shop on the third floor of 304, Vishnu Chambers in Karol Bagh. The proprietor, identified as Ravi Raj took Charanjeet out for a cup of tea and then escaped with the diamonds abandoning his shop.
Charanjeet, the complainant, works for one Rajeev Sehgal who runs a jewellery shop at The Ashok Hotel.
The police said they are trying to verify the antecedents of the accused who is on the run since the incident which took place at around 8 pm. The police has registered a case at the Karol Bagh police station and investigation is on.
