Master Plan for city needs relook: Nath
Union urban development minister Kamal Nath on Thursday said that there was a need to revisit the Master Plan for Delhi (MPD)-2010, which had quite a few anomalies. The minister also favoured allocating vacant government land for Central Schools saying that there was a shortage of schools in the city. Talking to reporters after meeting the MPs from the city, Mr Nath said that there was a need to revise MPD-2021 and the whole system of constructing a building and then demolishing it should be done away with.
“Master plan will go for revision. We should not continue with the system where people first pay for construction and then again pay for preventing the demolition. We must end the perpetuation of the system,” said Mr Nath.
“The Master Plan is not for the inspectors, it is for the people. So, people’s aspirations should reflect in the Master Plan,” he further said.
Mr Nath said that while allotting vacant government land, preference should be given to Central Schools. He made the observation after it was brought to his notice that there was shortage of schools in the city and the MPs demanded that more land be allotted for the purpose.
The minister added that there should preferably be at least one school in every colony.
The minister also said that his attention was drawn to a DDA notification, passed on January 18, in which it has been mandatory for the residents of rural areas, urbanised villages and lal dora areas to get their building plans sanctioned by civic authorities. “If need be, the notification could be de-notified,” said the minister.
On the issue of moratorium on sealing and demolition, the minister said that the desirability of the extension of the moratorium was being examined.
The moratorium expired on December 31, 2010.
